Self-Defense Tip #107 — Self-Defense with an Unbreakable® Telescopic Umbrella

In a previous self-defense tip you learned about a system of self-defense with a walking-stick umbrella or a cane. The essence of that system applies just as well to self-defense use of a telescopic or collapsible Unbreakable® Umbrella. Even so, a reader asked, “How about tips on using the collapsible umbrella?” and I referred him to videos with instructions for using the telescopic model of Unbreakable® Umbrella (click to see my answer). I guess the videos were not self-explanatory enough for all because I got several more requests for instructions specific to the telescopic model. So here they are:

You have the umbrella in your hand. It gives you an advantage—the reach. Your attacker’s hands are within your striking range, while you are outside the attacker’s reach. Strike the hands and forearms—they will be the nearest targets. Do not give up your advantage by prematurely striking at farther vital targets—doing so will put you within the attacker’s reach. All this is shown in the video below, which also shows what to do when your umbrella is grabbed by the attacker.

The summary: Stay out of range and hit the nearest target. One or two strong whacks on a forearm or a hand from a distance will surely disable the attacker. By the way, we offer a DVD showing a whole system of practice with blunt weapons and blades. With this practice you will put fear into everybody—not just the much titled martial arts “masters” but into experienced street fighters and thugs too. Don’t believe me? See reviews of the DVD.

Applying any of the techniques mentioned above is your sole responsibility.

The Unbreakable Umbrella -- better than a cane, keeps the rain off, whacks like a steel pipe.
