Self-Defense Tip 117 What Weapons Can You Legally Carry Everywhere

Items you may legally carry in New York City, London, and other places with laws modeled on the Soviet and Nazi laws

This tip lists items you may get away with carrying in places such as New York City, with totalitarian laws modeled on the Soviet and Nazi laws (both socialist systems). The list is based on the one compiled by Dale DuPont.

But before the list….
There is something better than all the list’s items, except perhaps the flashlight. It is an ordinary everyday wear item, that:

— is always with you, and quick to draw out,

— is nearly as destructive as a stick or a cane,

— unlike some of the above items, has full plausible deniability — no one can question your having it with you.

Watch it below.

Do you want a belt like that? You can make it yourself. It is easy, just get a suitable belt and a buckle, and attach the buckle to the belt. Neither part is expensive. I will give you links for these parts if you send me a message with the subject “belt” through our Contact form.

Now, the list compiled by Dale DuPont. My comments are in square brackets:

1) A small can of pepper spray
[My comment: A visitor to NYC better not risk it, see quora.com/Is-it-legal-to-carry-pepper-spray-in-New-York-City.];

2) a baseball bat (make sure you have a ball, so you can say you’re on your way to the cage)
[My comment: You better know your way to the baseball cage and be able to prove you intended to get there.];

3) a cane (regular, no blades or anything James Bond-ish);

4) a small knife under 4 inches in length that is not spring assisted or switchblade, and a non-locking blade is probably your safest legal bet;

5) a roll of coins;

6) a self-defense umbrella (totally real thing, here’s the link https://unbreakableumbrella.com/)
[My comment: But do read Self-Defense Tip #122 — Reviews with good advice from owners of Unbreakable® Umbrellas and Self-Defense Tip #99 — Good Advice on Deniability.];

7) a newspaper, see the video below:
[My comment: A newspaper or a glossy magazine, if simply rolled up, is a weapon of opportunity, legally safer than an improvised weapon, which is what the video shows. The difference between weapons of opportunity and improvised weapons is explained in Self-Defense Tip #102 — Improvised Weapons: Keys.];

A newspaper made into an improvised weapon, a Millwall Brick, legally less safe than a weapon of opportunity

8) a pool cue
[My comment: You better carry it in a pool-cue bag, know your way to a game room and be able to prove you intended to get there.];

Two more items, which Dale DuPont forgot:

9) A sturdy pen, or even an ordinary pencil.

Ordinary Pencil …
For more on ordinary pencils and pens, read Self-Defense Tip 58 — Tactical Pen vs. an Ordinary Pencil, or “Pay More for Less”;

10) A small but powerful flashlight, “the absolute 100% for sure best-self defense tool,” which you can take everywhere and never need any justifications or explanations for, for example, the NTOI™ Key Ring Flashlight.

A quote to keep in mind:
“The best weapon is going to be the one you’re most competent at using, as well as having it handy when you need it.”
